OUTSIDE LANDS MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL

Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly Productions and Starr Hill Presents, in a partnership with the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department, are proud to introduce the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. The inaugural multi-faceted, three-day festival will take place in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park August 22 - 24, 2008.

Radiohead, Tom Petty and Jack Johnson will headline the event. Full lineup, ticketing, on-sale and other information will be announced throughout the coming weeks.

"With the incomparable pedigree of its producers, Outside Lands is set to be the dynamic event with the broad range of entertainment and amusement options you'd expect from the partnering of the co-founders of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival with one of the most successful promoters in Northern California. The unique strengths of these two companies using the backdrop of one of the most famous parks in one of the most famous musical cities in the world is certain to make for an unforgettable weekend. Golden Gate Park has been the site of such events as Peter Gabriel's WOMAD Festival, the Tibetan Freedom Concert, the Guinness Fleadh Festival, Love, Laughter & Music celebrating the lives of Bill Graham, as well as single mega-concerts by the likes of Pearl Jam, Neil Young, and most recently the Dave Matthews Band. Outside Lands, perhaps the most ambitious event in the park's history, will be the first annual ticketed large-scale multi-stage event in this historic location. A portion of every ticket sold will directly benefit Golden Gate Park.

With five main performance stages, the music programming will represent a wide range of genres, including rock, blues, reggae, jazz, hip-hop, world, soul, Latin and electronic music. From singer-songwriters to roots acts, rock bands and DJs, major national headliners will perform alongside exceptional emerging talent, making the event a substantial celebration of the established and the cutting edge. Local acts will also be featured prominently as the festival will represent San Francisco's vibrant cultural community. The local flavor will also be seen in the festival¹s concessions, featuring foods from local eateries, as well as in the world of the visual arts, with work from artists in both traditional and new media being featured throughout the event. More information about all the festival attributes and activities will be announced over the coming weeks and months.

Since both Superfly and Another Planet have a strong history of being environmentally conscious organizations, the festival will be a particularly green undertaking, utilizing carbon offsetting, recycling programs, and other greening efforts. Furthermore, the event will directly benefit the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department with a special annual donation.

With a seemingly endless selection of music and activities, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival is certain to be one of the ultimate summer destinations for live music fans. The fact that it will take place in the great city of San Francisco ensures an unparalleled entertainment experience."

This Is Your Brain On Jazz

"Scientists funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) have found that, when jazz musicians are engaged in the highly creative and spontaneous activity known as improvisation, a large region of the brain involved in monitoring one’s performance is shut down, while a small region involved in organizing self-initiated thoughts and behaviors is highly activated."

Hubble peers into the Great Eye of Sauron

"Astronomers at the University of California, Berkeley, and NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center have released a rather remarkable Hubble image of a ring of dust around star Fomalhaut, described by New Scientist as resembling "the Great Eye of Sauron"."

Unfortunately, the scientists have reported no word on the Shire. Read more HERE.

Remember D'Angelo?

I sure do. His album 'Brown Sugar' will always be one of my favorite neo soul albums. His follow-up, 'Voodoo' was also the shit. The man is so smooth...and so tight. So where the fuck is he? I mean this guy has gone deeper than Ms. Hill.
Until now? Well, that's what some were saying. But it seems like a wicked tease now. Read about it HERE.

Fuck Me! My little babies 'is all grows up!'

remember me?

Hey. Remember me? It's been a while since I've got my blog on. Over a month! Why? Besides the fact that I'm just amusing myself here and absolutely NO ONE ever reads this blog, well....well, Life. That's why. You know, season's change and all that shit.
Besides dealing with the weather and it's effect on my biz, I've had some exciting things going on. Now that Spring is creeping on us, Ive really been trying to get some things together and take my biz to the next level. Don't get me wrong. I realize there are MANY more levels but one at a time. I just got my license from the City. I'm also in the process of making some flyers that will hopefully stimulate some new, much needed business.
Most importantly and no doubt the biggest, happiest change for me is my recent engagement to Steph. I asked her to marry me Valentines evening after a mellow dinner out. I am very happy and am looking forward to spending my life with the most beautiful women I know.

Turn It Down!

Turn Me Up is a non-profit music industry organization campaigning to give artists back the choice to release more dynamic records. To be clear, it's not our goal to discourage loud records; they are, of course, a valid choice for many artists. We simply want to make the choice for a more dynamic record an option for artists.

LED MOTHERFUCKIN' ZEPPELIN

THE BOYS ARE BACK!
Led Zeppelin has just finished their first show in 19 years. Plant (seen in a recent rehearsal in the photo above), Page, Jones and John Bonham's son Jason on drums played in London's O2 arena to a beyond sold out crowd and apparently did NOT disappoint.. Billboard.com was there delivering the up-to-the minute set list highlights including .....

Led Zeppelin has played:

"Good Times, Bad Times"
"Ramble On"
"Black Dog"
"In My Time of Dying"
"For Your Life" (first time ever played live)
"Trampled Underfoot"
"Nobody's Fault But Mine"
"No Quarter"
"Since I've Been Lovin' You"
"Dazed and Confused"
"Stairway To Heaven"
"The Song Remains the Same"
"Misty Mountain Hop"
"Kashmir" ("They're starting to look tired now but that riff is still big enough to fill the 02," says a spy inside)

Encore:
"Whole Lotta Love" ("The crowd is going ballistic," says our source)
"Rock and Roll"

Wow. That's a set! "For Your Life" DEBUT. Get the fuck out. I'm not even going to say anything else.

Weekend Tube - Redemption

THE LIST 1.0

I am in the process of cataloging my (mostly live) music collection...and a process IT IS! I'm finding i need a list just so I'm not getting duplicates of shows. Also, it will make it easier for me to share music with everyone. So if you see something you would like , email me and I will send you a copy.
Here is a list of some of shows I've gotten in the past 4-5 months (sans phish).

Please note that 99% of these are SOUNDBOARD and FM sourced!

**THE LIST HAS BEEN UPDATED. PLEASE SEE NEWEST POST TAGGED W/"THE LIST" ABOVE.

Weekend Tube?

I was thinking of posting a cool You Tube video once a week to share what I've been digging on. I was going to post it on a certain day of the week and call it 'you tube tuesday ..or wed.', whatever. If I did that I would have to post on that day and you all know how I am with that.
So ladies and gents, I introduce..

Weekend Tube!

I'm starting this off with a favorite of mine. You might have come across this already. Either on your own or through the Murcof Tube link on this blog.

Here is Murcof (laptop), Erik Truffaz (trumpet) and Talvin Singh (tablas) at Montreux 2006.
Also, I have a soundboard audio copy of this show for those that are interested. It is amazing!

Massive Letdown

So, I was just watching some South Park and taking some um...well, anyway. My ears were MAD HAPPY when they caught the familiar sounds of some Massive Attack, which is one of my favorite bands ever! The joy was soon washed over and drowned with disapointment when I realized it was a commercial I was hearing....aaggghh! A commercial for a video game called 'Assassins'. Awful.
I know selling out is the unfortunate norm and not a lot can be expected of people and all of that, but...come the fuck on. This is Massive Attack. The infamous crew of camera shy, stage shy, studio shy musicians. If they need money why don't they tour? Or record? Shit,
put together a greatest hits mix. T-shirts? A fucking poster maybe. Please.

Say it aint so, Joe!

Free Graph and Grid Paper

I've been using this site for a while now. I mostly print graph paper for landscape designs but have recently printed some of the guitar/bass fret paper also. You can change the number of lines per sheet, size of lines and all. They have a lot of specialty papers for different design formats, accounting and more. It's free and it's great.

George W. Bush's Presidential Advance Manual

click HERE to read it. there are some interesting parts in there as well as some silly stuff...
"The formation of “rally squads” is a common way to prepare for demonstrators by countering their message. This tactic involves utilizing small groups of volunteers to spread favorable messages using large hand held signs, placards, or perhaps a long sheet banner, and placing them in strategic areas around the site. These squads should be instructed always to look for demonstrators. The rally squad's task is to use their signs and banners as shields between the demonstrators and the main press platform. If the demonstrators are yelling, rally squads can begin and lead supportive chants to drown out the protestors (USA!,USA!,USA!). As a last resort, security should remove the demonstrators form the event site. The rally squads can include, but are not limited to, college/young republican organizations, local athletic teams, and fraternities/sororities."

Peaceblaster

STS9 is more than my favorite band. They're good people. They've always found a way to share their success with others...artists, d.j.'s, fellow musicians. They've also consistently supported many worthwhile organizations and causes including Head Count and especially Conscious Alliance.
Now they've invested their efforts into a new site, Peaceblaster.
"Peaceblaster is a database of links, organizations, documentaries, books and ideas geared toward raising awareness and creating a platform to organize, participate in and debate the pressing issues of our day."
