da' deck..cont.

I'm almost finished with the deck. I need to build the railing and do some finishing work and then on to the rest of the yard. You can see I built my dad a ramp and included a simple raised step also.
It is almost 700 sq. feet. I used every last piece of wood and Trex. Now that's some good estimating!

da' deck

As some of you know, I've been building a deck at my parent's house. It's been a great learning experience and a lot of fun. It's not quite finished but here are some pics....

I used pressure treated 4x8 lumber for the frame and am using Trex to cover it. This thing will be there long after my parents are. I am building the railing out of pressure treated posts and redwood slats. This is the most earth-friendly design I could do in this setting, with these goals. Overall the yard will be sustainably designed, low maintenance and extremely cost effective over time!
It's obviously a 'low' deck, so I spent a lot of time grading the fill dirt around the house. I attached the deck to the house and used Deck Blocks, which worked very well. I covered the ground with landscape fabric and a gravel mix that will stop any weeds from growing up through the fabric.
Kali chillin' as soon as I get some Trex down.

EVERYTHING MARCO!

SOLO, DUO, TRIO, QUARTET, + MORE
Marco Benevento HAS to be the new 'hardest working man in show biz'! Marco is coming off some monumental week-long runs at New York City's now closed jazz club, Tonic, gearing up for a summer with his famed post-jam-jazz band, The Bennevento Russo Duo (see duotube below for more), soaking in recent Duo tours with Mike and Trey (from Phish), sitting in with everyone who's anyone in the jazz scene, as well as introducing a line of t-shirts and crafting his own website.
VINCENT CHASE as MARCO?

That's right. The Sundance Channel is making a movie based on Marco's story. Mr. Benevento will be played by Entourage star Adrian Grenier and will feature some the music off Marco's soon to be released (August 7 th) Live at Tonic three CD set on Ropeadope Records.

Roses & Clover

GOOD VIBRATIONS AND A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS
That's right. It's summer and those mojitos just wouldn't taste right without the sun-drenched sounds of ALO.
It seems the boys have shed the longer name (Animal Liberation Orchestra)and even the more frequently used abbreviations (A.L.O.) for a sleeker name, look and if even possible, sound.
These are still the same four nice guys you've come to love. Now, after signing onto good friend, Jack Johnson's Brushfire label followed by non-stop promoting and touring, including opening spots for Jack and the Dave Matthews band, these guys are ready for the big leagues.
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN
Yesterday marked the release of their new album, Roses & Clover and this weekend they kick off their tour at the lovely Fillmore in San Francisco. OH MY! It will be as lovely as ever as ALO has garnered a serious fan base of freaks who help make every show a serious party. It's always been difficult for me to describe their music. I used to refer to them as the 'STEELY DAN' of jam bands. I just know when I think ALO, I think....
SUPER FUNKY
DANCE MY ASS OFF
TIGHT BAND
RIPPING GUITAR SOLOS
THE COOLEST FANS!
FAT-ASS ORGAN/SYNTH
SWEET VOCALS
LAID-BACK JAMS
AND ALWAYS THE BEST TIME EVER!

Check out the new digs, dates, video as well as four songs off the new album (streaming)@

Howdy Freaks,
After much procrastination, inspiration and condemnation I have decided to 'get my blog on'. That's right, just what you wanted...more ME!
If you know me, you know that I often have opinions on.....well..um, everything. In fact, it is possible that you yourself have wished for a large anvil to fall out of the sky, directly upon me and me opinions. Possibly, of course. If this is the case, I apologize and invite you to share in my new "focused expression of emotions and opinions"; my blog.
I hope the title is an obvious poke at my love/hate relationship with hippies and the constant realization that I am a hippie. My homey, G.B. Stevie, often recognizes my slant as "devil's advocate"-ish and I'm not one to argue:)
Of course, this will be more than an outlet to rant. I would like to use this forum to share news, local happenings, progressive ideas, cool web sites, photos, music and art galore. I hope to use it as a platform to stoke on behalf of good causes and great people. Sort of a buffet style but spicier. Kind of like Mongolian BBQ.
I don't plan on writing every day but will try to keep everything up-to-date. I will definitely be rotating cool links from the web, show dates and more.
Also, I encourage everyone to join Blogger (Google based and free) and welcome feedback, ideas, freebies, nude pics, recipe exchanges, etc.
In addition, you can subscribe to this blog and receive the feed through various feed readers including your Yahoo or Google home page.
Hope to see you on here soon!

Lots of Love,
Jalew
